DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT - VERY LIKELY MY ALBUM OF THE YEAR

DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT return with their new opus, ‘WIDOWMAKER’ – a viciously haunting voyage into the macabre from the forefront of British extreme metal. Here, DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT grab the metal underground by the throat with some of the most important British extreme metal recordings to emerge in recent years. An eerie masterpiece that pieces together a colossal atmosphere belonging as much to Swans or Neurosis as it does to Autopsy and Burning Witch.

2012 has been a potent year for DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT, developing on the underground acclaim of their “Hatred For Mankind” debut, originally released on Mordgrimm Records (Anaal Nathrakh) and re-released worldwide by Prosthetic in 2010. This mysterious outfit captivated audiences with devastating shows at this year’s Roadburn Festival and the Maryland Death Fest, before heading out on a debut trek across the US, commanding more initiates to their cult as they went. The buzz developed throughout the year, which is crowned by the release of WIDOWMAKER. A merciless foray into more experimental territory perhaps, leached with mournful strings and restrained introspection between the crushing funeral dirge. Three mammoth tracks over forty blackened minutes presented with suitably creepy artwork and packaged in special gatefold digi-wallet and limited die-hard vinyl edition.

The band are also completing a video project as a companion piece to the album, directed by Dwid Hellion of Integrity and audio mastering by Billy Anderson (Neurosis / High On Fire). More news on this to follow.

Terrorizer chronicle DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT as “crushing, sweeping and just plain riffing,” praising their “crusty blackened doom” and “delicious black majesty.” Meanwhile, Metal Hammer distinguished their sound as “a torrent of seething riffs so caustically expansive, they feel as though they’re about the burst out of your skin.  It’s also the sheer, pre-meditated malice that drives them on a systematic rite of destruction, whose domineering, scorched-Earth tactics leave no synapse or nerve-ending unscathed.”

With “Widowmaker”, DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT further their claim to the crown of the UK underground. This grueling three-track, 40-minute release has been described by the band as “a concept album from beginning to end. It’s different yet still leaves the listener thinking whether jumping out of a 4th  floor window might actually be the best idea they’ve ever had.”

A rewarding, often beautiful and more often than not disturbing proposition, this album is one of the most powerful pieces of music you will hear all year.
