DAMNATION FESTIVAL LINE-UP COMPLETE

Doom and sludge titans CONAN, BLACK MAGICIAN and IRON WITCH will set the final cast for the wall of sound which has become Damnation Festival's fourth stage.

The Liverpool trio cement the new doom-focused stage which already boasts Moss, Mourning Beloveth, Slabdragger and Palehorse in a bunker-like venue, aptly named Mine.

Death metal duo DYSCARNATE and DIAMANTHIAN complete an extreme TERRORIZER STAGE which will also see Rotting Christ, Vallenfyre, Negura Bunget, Voices and The Afternoon Gentlemen test the structure of the cavernous Riley Smith Hall.

While, Polish post-rock quartet TIDES FROM NEBULA add the final touch to an eclectic EYESORE MERCH STAGE which will also be graced by Cult of Luna, Crippled Black Phoenix, The Ocean, Rosetta, Year of no Light and Dirge.

Damnation Festival's premier JAGERMEISTER STAGE is already complete with Carcass, Katatonia, God Seed, Shining, SSS and Twilight of the Gods playing on Saturday, November 2, at Leeds University Union.

Festival director Gavin McInally said: "Not only is this by far the best line-up we've ever put on, but it is also the most pleasing as we've been able to add a fourth stage with the support of fans who've bought so many tickets so early in the year while reducing the number of our much-hated clashes too.

"If doom, sludge and post-metal is your thing, you'll be able to watch every band from Iron Witch to Cult of Luna without wandering more than 20 yards while fans more interested in the Terrorizer and Jager stages will be able to catch the likes of Shining, Negura Bunget, God Seed, Vallenfyre, Katatonia, Rotting Christ and Carcass in one relentless day of music.

"At just £34 a ticket, we believe this line-up deserves a 'Sold Out' plaster across it and with five weeks of sales to go, that's our target, so please keep up the support!"

Tickets for Damnation Festival 2013 are on sale now, priced £34, available from: http://www.leedstickets.co.uk , the official Damnation Festival website at

An interview with Paul Sadler of the amazing SPIRES

Since catching Spires live at The Witchwood in Ashton-Under-Lyne back in 2011, and subsequently searching out debut album “Spiral of Ascension,” they have become a band I constantly look to for inspiration. Their Mancunian based brand of meandering progressive metal stands out through stunningly intricate musicianship, symphonic sense of song structure and a general grasp of melody, which can be easily lost in such extreme surroundings.
A second album has been on the cards for some time and with a UK / European tour commencing at the end of the month, Mudkiss grabbed vocalist / guitarist Paul Sadler by the scruff of the neck and demanded answers about the new material….where, when and how?

CIRCLE OF RAGE INTERVIEW

Music and politics have always been intrinsically intertwined in some shape or form throughout the centuries. As we once again experience particularly turbulent times, it’s inevitable that musicians will pick up instruments in anger, determined to rail against actual or perceived injustice.
Circle of Rage are one such band, unleashing their ‘Rage in D Minor’ album at the end of July. There’s a sound which meshes extreme styles, it’s punk, it’s hardcore, it’s metal….not easy to pigeonhole, but certainly easy to appreciate the incredible levels of intensity both musically and lyrically.

Inspired by this anarchic debut, Mudkiss fired a salvo of questions at vocalist Tommo.

MUDKISS FANZINE HITS THE AIR WAVES

Just a week to go before Mudkiss Fanzine takes to the airwaves thanks to the fine people down at Pure 107.8FM.  In some ways, it's difficult to comprehend anyone would give the Mudkiss team an opportunity to sit and wax lyrical about our passion, playing and sharing tracks we love. For me, gigs don't really get much better.

The focus of the show, as with the Mudkiss.com site, is to promote new, underground music, introduce people to bands and artists they might not otherwise come across.  Will you enjoy every single track we play.....I seriously hope not.

Our differing and varied tastes guarantee some of the music will be challenging, it won't always be an easy listen but rest assured, there will be much food for thought.

If the any of the above applies to you, join us at www.pureradio.org.uk on Thursday nights, commencing September 19th, 11pm til Midnight UK time and give us, plus more of the Pure team a follow on Twitter :

@puremudkiss
@mudkissfanzine
@pureguestlist
@pure1078

 If none of the above applies, I'd give it a miss and stick to the Golden Oldie day time shows.

REPORTS:

Trust Disney - Reporting by Coco Fierce
"On a recent trip to the cinema with my son, it really made me think about the paths we take in life. In many children’s films, we are taught that good always triumphs over evil and that if you try hard enough all of your dreams can come true. But we all know that this doesn’t mirror reality."

Rockabilly Rants: Embarrassing Parents - by Coco Fierce

"Kids are great. Everyday seems to bring a new and exciting development. Whether it is baby teeth falling out, the moment they read their first words or them memorising the moves to Gangnam Style, being a parent is full of weird and wonderful experiences. Well last week I had a bit of a first as a Mum. My five year old son told me how embarrassing I was."

CARCASS – SURGICAL STEEL REVIEW - MUDKISS FANZINE

2013 has, and continues to be the year of the recorded resurgence, both Black Sabbath and David Bowie releasing new records after years of inactivity. While both have merits, they ultimately pale into insignificance alongside the return of Liverpudlian Metal legends Carcass.  Perhaps a name unknown too much of the musical wider world, but within extreme circles the forthcoming release a monstrously major event.  To describe “Surgical Steel” as the comeback album of the year would be accurate, but also woeful understatement. In reality, this possibly the best comeback album ever, particularly after a protracted lay off of seventeen years, the aptly and ironically titled “Swansong” the last previous release in 1996.

Full review over at Mudkiss Fanzine http://www.mudkiss.com/extremeaugust.htm

Surgical Steel is released on September 13th through Nuclear Blast Records
