Mercury Music Prize 2011

Ok, the nominations are in for this years Mercury Music Prize as follows:

Metronomy - The English Riviera
Adele - 21
Everything Everything - Man Alive

Ghostpoet - Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam

Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi
Tinie Tempah - Disc-Overy
Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys
Gwilym Simcock - Good Days at Schloss Elmau
James Blake - James Blake
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Katy B - On a Mission
King Creosote & John Hopkins - Diamond Mine

For me, I'd be hoping for an Everything Everything, PJ Harvey or James Blake win, although great to see Kenny Anderson (King Creosote) included in there, a massively underrated talent.

Thoughts anyone?

Another free download from a Sub Pop artist, this time Fruit Bats.  "Tangie and Ray" taken from their album "Tripper" is as infectious a piece of jangly indie pop as you'll come across.

The Phoenix Experiment

Unfortunately I couldn't make The Warrington Festival yesterday, if I had however, The Phoenix Experiment would have been top of my list of bands to watch.  Formed by ex members of The 66 and based purely around the music and visuals, than any commercial aspects, they truly are a band of the people.

Check them out live with "Dead and Gone" at the link below and also an incredible filthy piece of psychedelic blues with "Cut You Down" also on Youtube.
