Interview with Manchester Progressive Metallers - Incassum

For a band formed in 2004, with just 2008’s “In Vain” EP to show from a studio perspective, the debut, full length album “Rite of Passage” scheduled for release in November outlines the sheer bloody minded commitment shown by Incassum. Where many would long ago have fallen by the wayside the Mancunian Progressive Death Metal quintet soldiered on regardless, bolstered by an enviable live reputation and a deep rooted belief in their own abilities. These elements obviously recognised by Rocksector Records, recently signing the band to their roster, providing a timely outlet.

Stimulated by a free download of “Blood Soaked Banner” available at the Rocksector Soundcloud Page, Mudkiss quizzed drummer John Curran about the forthcoming release, gigs and plans for the future.

Final bands added to Damnation Festival line up

Alt rockers HAWK EYES, grind machine THE ATROCITY EXHIBIT and metal melting pot RAVEN's CREED complete the stunning and diverse line up for the eight chapter of Damnation Festival.

The English trio of bands will open the Jagermeister, Terrorizer and Eyesore stages, respectively, at Leeds University Union in just over five weeks' time where they'll complete heavyweight bill which includes Electric Wizard, Pig Destroyer, My Dying Bride, Belphegor and Amenra.

And Northampton's The Atrocity Exhibit are keen to set the tone for the day in typically devastating fashion.

They said: "As regular attendees over the years it's incredible to be asked to play Damnation 2012.

"The line-up is already looking great and it's amazing to be on a bill with various bands who were big influences on us starting out.

"Come drink cider with us and watch Pig Destroyer, activate the blast pit!"

Raven's Creed added: "Our collective bosom swells with barbaric rectitude, we look foward to discharging thirty minutes of fetid death-thrash right in the face of the Northern quarter, no one at the venue may look Al in the eye!"

The complete line-up for Damnation Festival 2012 is: Electric Wizard, My Dying Bride, Pig Destroyer, Belphegor, Amenra, Primordial, Extreme Noise Terror, Textures, Devil Sold His Soul, Aura Noir, Gama Bomb, 40 Watt Sun, Maybeshewill, Bossk, Vreid, Hawk Eyes, Winterfylleth, Wodensthrone, Witchsorrow, Hang The Bastard, Blacklisters, Raven's Creed and The Atrocity Exhibit.

Tickets priced £32 are available from http://www.leedstickets.com and via the official Damnation Festival site and Facebook through Ticketscript: http://www.damnationfestival.co.uk/tickets and at Crash and Jumbo store in Leeds.

THE MISERABLE RICH TAKE A BREAK.......FOR HOW LONG?

Genuinely saddened to hear this news. The Miserable Rich have been one of my favourite bands of the last few years, since first hearing "The Boat Song" live on Marc Riley's 6 music show. I've seen the guys on a number of occasions in Manchester, a city which has become almost a second home and also enjoyed a couple of highly entertaining chats with lead singer James.

If you're anywhere near London, Brighton or Brockenhurst on the dates below, get along and see one of Britains most unique and refreshing outfits.

Hopefully the break won't be too long and they'll be back, raring to go in some shape or form. Good luck fellas and all the best, wherever life takes you next.

Big emotional send-off gigs in London and Brighton
this Autumn

Hullo, friends and supporters old and new -
and welcome back to the miserable newsletter....
and what a tricky one it is to write....

After a busy Summer of making new friends, festivaling and radio sessioning, a busier year of touring and promoting, and an even busier 5 years of writing, recording and releasing records between tours, the merry Team Miserable is due a break........

A change is as good as a rest, they say, and in our case, we may well need both - so with happy but sentimental hearts, the band are preparing to play their last three gigs - for now - in London and Brighton, as well as a lovely little place in the New Forest - over the coming few months.

Fear not, for change is inevitable and
we are sure that, should the demand and the desire coincide, we will play again some shiny day in the future.
In what form we friends will play, however,
we cannot say.
Never say never, indeed.

So - come along to the shows you can make - help us to make it a joyously Miserable send-off - and hear us thank you for all your support, in the best way we know how.....

28.09.12 Fri - Kings Place / London

14.10.12 Sun - The Pig / Brockenhurt

30.11.12 Fri - Pavilion Theatre / Brighton

OK, folks.

That would seem to be it for now from Miserable Towers. But we wouldn't leave you empty hearted, would we now?

So here's a cover of Kylie's All The Lovers, in a Penguin Cafe style, courtesy of one of our much appreciated Pledgers from last year, who bought it for his girlfirend as a very special Chrimbo pressie

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it - in a Swiss club the day after a hell of a drink up - and that you can make it along to the upcoming shows. We'll be throwing ourselves into these ones like never before.

Join us and tear a hole in the night

2:54 Cover Adamski's Killer

If you're going to cover a song, make sure you put an individual stamp on it, while not perhaps totally un-recognisable, at least taken to another dimension, a bit like 2:54 here, with their version of Adamski's "Killer"

ROCHDALE FEEL GOOD FESTIVAL REVIEW

Another splendid day of free music at The Rochdale Feel Good Festival over the first weekend of September.  Check out the Mudkiss review of the main stage action.

WOODS Premiere New Video: Cali In A Cup Bend Beyond released 17th September 2012

Woods premiere their first video from the 17th September released album Bend Beyond. The Adarsha Benjamin-directed 'Cali In A Cup' was filmed on Super 8 at and around this year's Woodsist Festival in Big Sur, CA.

"For their seventh album, Bend Beyond, Woods got dark. It’s not that they weren’t dark before—when you really get in there and listen, Jeremy Earl is singing about some heavy stuff, but it’s hidden under his gorgeous falsetto and sometimes obtuse lyrics. On Bend Beyond, though, Earl and company fully embrace that darkness.

Album opener “Bend Beyond,” has long been a jammy live staple, but here it’s compact and tight with a stuttered guitar line and a world-ending collision of instruments. Meanwhile “Is It Honest” jangles along happily until you notice Earl is in a more destructive zone than the bright music initially suggests, singing It’s so f***ing hard to see as both a form of comfort and an act of despair.

Instrumentally, Bend Beyond is certainly the most full Woods record yet, guitars weave and bubble across peppy drumming, but lyrically Earl is at his most direct and spare. While previous albums sounded like they went directly from Earl’s brain to tape with minimal outside interference, Bend Beyond is lush and full-bodied, the work of a band in perfect, heavy harmony.

Tracklist:

1. Bend Beyond
3. Is It Honest?
4. It Ain't Easy
5. Cascade
6. Back To The Stone
7. Find Them Empty
8. Wind Was The Wine
9. Lily
11. Impossible Sky
12. Something Surreal

MUDKISS FANZINE SHOWCASE NIGHT

Just a month to go before Bolton, on October 5th the place to be for new music, Mudkiss Fanzine in conjunction with The Railway Venue host their first music showcase, highlighting the best in local and underground talent.

As you would expect from the respected zine, an eclectic line-up on show, from the explosive psychedelic blues of The Phoenix Experiment.

The glamour, and indie pop perfection provided by Dressing for Pleasure.

The melodic, melancholic laments of Kindest of Thieves lead singer Mr Chris Fox

All seamlessly compared by the incomparable Mr Les Glover.

At just a fiver on the door, you'd be foolish to miss if anywhere in the North West at the beginning of October.
