On album of the month duty over at Mudkiss for June with a fantastic new record from The Icarus Line. I doubted they'd ever match the sheer brilliance of Penance Soiree, but they have just gone and done exactly that.

Cult of Luna plus two more added to Damnation Festival
SWEDISH post-metal masters CULT OF LUNA have promised a "crushing wall of sound and light" after being confirmed to headline a stage at Damnation Festival 2013.
They will be joined at the ninth instalment of the UK's finest day of metal, hosted at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, November 2, by Liverpool's crossover thrashers SSS and London's black metal quartet VOICES.
The trio bolster an eclectic bill which already includes Carcass, Crippled Black Phoenix and Moss as well as exclusive UK shows by Negura Bunget and Vallenfyre.
Cult of Luna said: "Cult of Luna return to the UK after a sell out show at London's Garage in January.
"The band will fly in for a standalone performance as they continue promoting the Fritz Lang 'Metropolis' inspired 'Vertikal', their first album in over 5 years.
"Expect a heavy, crushing and richly textured wall of sound and light to bring Damnation to a close in spectacular fashion."
SSS front man Foxy is looking forward to taking the Jagermeister Stage for a full thrash assault.
He said: "It's a great honour to be asked back to Damnation Festival.
"We have a block of new noise to from our forthcoming LP to let loose on the unsuspecting.
"Take a deep breath... once we start we don't stop!"
And Sam Loynes of Voices added: "We shall be bringing our exhibition of obsession to this year's Damnation Festival, alongside some truly exceptional bands.
"We plan to deliver only the most vividly extreme of music for this opportunity we have been offered.
"It's an honour to play the UK's leading extreme music festival."
After announcing their spilt, The Sontaran Experiment will no longer play the festival.

Retro Rock is Retro Chique in 2013
It's been a while since I posted on anything on my blog, but over the last few weeks I've been inspired by a resurrection of hard rock music, breathtaking in it's authenticity and vitality. Three bands in particular catching my eye and ears.
An album which has quickly become a constant on my I pod since it's release by Nuclear Blast, 'Abra Kadavar' by Kadavar a brilliant collection of psychedelic blues with a beautifully organic analogue sound, matching perfectly the cultivated 60's / 70's image of the Berliners.
Deep in the depths of Arkansa Iron Tongue take the Southern Blues tradition, add Doom Metal elements, creating a heavy sound, which utilising the gravelly vocal strength of Chris C.T Terry, full of depth and soul encapsulating a Neurosis / Lynyrd Skynyrd mesh of powerful uncompromising music. Although 'The Dogs have Barked, the Birds have Flown' released through Neurot Recordings on May 27th, a debut album, Iron Tongue with their veteran line-up already the fully formed real deal.

Looking slightly further ahead, another debut album out June 24th from Scorpion Child. Again on the excellent Nuclear Blast label. Classic elements of Zeppelin arise from Austin, Texas with soaring vocals supplementing screaming guitars and driving rhythms. One which all rock fans should immediately add to their wish lists.
