Five years feels a
long time since the last punk album from The Bronx, although the Los
Angeles quartet busying themselves over the last half decade with quite
bizarrely, two collections of Mariachi music, highlighting their mastery
of song writing, melody and musical ability. 2013 however, reveals a
fourth chronologically titled hardcore record, ‘The Bronx IV’ already a
strong contender for album of the year, bringing the band across the
Atlantic for a live foray in cities and venues of which they are very
familiar.

You've heard me
bang on at length about the incredible talent within U.K metal at
present, but to alleviate the idea of any favouritism, instead of
allowing myself loose on the soon to be released single by
TALANAS, felt the re-introduction of occasional Mudkiss contributor Tim Verhaegen
would give a more balanced view.
Check out Tim's thoughts from his
Canadian metal stronghold across the Atlantic. Can the UK really hold
it's own, pitted against the geographically larger extreme nations of
the world??
Original singer and founder member of AC/DC, Dave Evans, heads up day one of SOS Festival 2013. The line-up also includes X-UFO, the bandfeaturing former UFO members Laurence Archer, Danny Peyronel and Clive Edwards as well as Rocky Newton formerly of Michael Schenker Group. Day two is headed up by Manchester-based Babylon Fire who released their acclaimed "Dark Horizons" album on Rocksector Records in November.
Now
in its' sixth year this 2 day indoor celebration of rock and metal
takes place on 20th-21st July and boasts a unique combination of
time-served stalwarts, a showcase for Rocksector Records artists as well
as other emerging talent from the UK and abroad, alongside a decent
measure of quality bands from the Manchester area where the event is
held.
SOS
has a packed programme involving 22 bands on the main stage which is
now re-named the Dean Hocking Stage in memory of the recently deceased
bass player of Rocksector band Nightvision who was killed in a
motor accident in December, aged 23. The festival's second stage is for
acoustic sessions which have proved extremely popular since inception
and is headed up on day one by power-folk trio Steel Threads and on day two by Greek rockers 4Bitten who are shortly to embark on an extensive UK and European tour as special guests with UFO.
The
event builds also on its' strong reputation as a family-friendly
festival with all ages welcome, embracing its' aforementioned mix of
seasoned veterans rubbing shoulders with young emerging talent.
Other bands welcomed to SOS this year include Exit State, Triaxis and Bull Riff Stampede, each of which has made its' mark with album releases and previous festival appearances across the UK.
Says
festival director, Mark Appleton, "We aim to improve SOS each year and
following the successes of the past two years this is quite a challenge.
However, with the line-up we've assembled, we're confident we've taken
another stride forward, with a range of artists with something for every
fan of rock and metal, at thoroughly affordable prices"

And I have a crack at the new album by The Bronx, becoming carried away, giving ashort personal analysis on Punk as a genre......when will I learn to keep my big mouth shut.
Official video released by Kvelertak for lead track "Bruane Brenn" taken from forthcoming album 'Meir' available on march 26th.
Continuing where they left off, this a monstrous slab of hardcore punk metal, whatever you want to call it, ultimately a bludgeoning blast of extreme music infused with melody and fantastic video alongside, Child exploitation has never been more fun.
“We needed to spend some time away from the stave, so to speak. We released ‘the waspkeeper’ straight after ‘reason & abstract’, it even contains songs from the same sessions, so it was important for us to get out on the road and understand how we perform as a band rather than just four chaps bringing riffs to the table.” - Hal Sinden (vocals, guitar)
After two UK headline tours, appearances at Bloodstock Open Air Festival, Norway’s Rocktober Festival, Eindhoven Metal Meeting and a tour of Western Europe as main support to doom metal legends My Dying Bride, talanas now offer a glance at the shape of things to come from their next full length album, ‘daylight’.
Self-recorded at Central London’s prestigious Berry Street Studio, ‘corpseflower’ is the London quartet’s first venture into vinyl as a response to a clear demand from their listeners. Taking advantage of the classic format, the band are now afforded a chance to showcase a sense of duality between the A and B sides; as two sides of the same creative coin mirroring their integral approach to songwriting - savage vs. brooding. Content that metal as a genre will most assuredly forge on in its purest state, talanas are eager to busy themselves with introducing unorthodox references through which to provide an alternative to the established norm. From the culmination of musical influences such as Morbid Angel, Woven Hand & Fields of the Nephilim, through to their specific approach to visual presentation & performance, the band are set on re- introducing a sense of escapism and invention to a scene which risks stagnating over political and social commentary.
Throughout continued touring, overseas shows & press interaction the four band members have come to embrace the burgeoning association for talanas being distinctively British, upholding their given title of “The Gentlemen Of Death Metal”. Now, combined with their steadily ripening trademarks such as 7 string guitars & basses, one of industry’s largest custom drumkits and a notable band-wide sartorial obsession, the Londoners put forward their own identifiably refined take on extreme music & showmanship.
‘corpseflower’ is scheduled for release on March 1st 2013 through Eulogy Media Ltd.
Check out that kit, the sartorial elegance and sheer unadulterated power of talanas via the medium of YouTube. Pt 1 of their Western European tour diary with My Dying Bride below.
